Jim ‘JT’ Teiper
Owner / Operator
Jim has always been visually instinctive. He firmly believes that, with the proper tools and a clear vision, any idea or concept can be expressed visually. Jim began working in film and video production while completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Toledo. In 1990, he relocated to Southern California where he was fortunate enough to find sustaining work exclusively in production lighting.
Since then, Jim’s worked on dozens of feature films, TV series, commercials and corporate projects.
Throughout it all, he’s had the privilege of experiencing the lighting styles and personalities of numerous ASC & ACS cinematographers along with a myriad of different directors and crew members.
All of these experiences have led him to his current circumstances- Operating a uniquely qualified mobile lighting & grip company serving San Diego & Orange Counties as well as the Los Angeles area and the Desert Cities.
Gaffer / Key Grip
Micah has been trained by some of the finest in his craft. He started out making award-winning student films from his high school into college and later trained by Stephen Spielberg’s legendary Key Grip Jim Kwiatkowski -All while working as a freelance Gaffer & Grip on substantial projects of his own. His resume includes B movies right up to national union features.
Micah has also done numerous commercial and corporate work with Available Light. He helped build much of Available Light’s main lighting van and knows how to stow the equipment particularly well. This has made Micah an indispensable crew member.
Gaffer / Key Grip
Kevin was educated at Palomar College where he worked as photographer, editor, and producer at Prime Time Palomar, the schools local television news show. There, he received a nomination for a Regional Emmy for the documentary, “Walk on Water” which he produced.
He graduated with a AA in Cinema and received certificates in Digital Media and Graphic Design. While in college, he interned for local production companies as lighting and grip on production shoots and as an an editor in the office. After graduation in 2002, Kevin has worked as a freelance Gaffer & Key Grip, and Director of Photography on many feature films, television shows as well as on commercial work. He is a master of his trade and one of the hardest working individuals you’ll ever work with. His skilled eye brings value to every production he is a part of.
Gaffer / Key Grip
Nick has worked professionally in the fields of lighting & grip for over 20 years. He has worked with numerous celebrities and on many different styles of projects. His attitude and humor accent his experience and professionalism making him a positive force on any set.
Lighting Tech. / Grip
Mario is the quiet one. Educated in Film Arts at MediaTech, he has grown in the lighting crafts and is now an extremely dependable tech. known for his hard work and self motivation. He can be counted on to complete whatever tasks that need doing and can always be counted on for his contagious smile.
Gaffer / Grip
Cody Is a self-starter problem solver. His skills include keying Television shows and corporate projects too numerous to mention. Add in his Gaffer skills and you have an exceptional well-rounded hand on set- A hand you can always rely on.
Greg is a world-class Grip Artist known for Key Gripping countless television shows and commercials. His reputation is literally known the world over. A nicer, kinder man you will not find and his uncommon loyalty is rarely seen.
Lighting Tech. / PA
Steph is a recent MediaTech graduate with a keen intellect and an eye for beauty. Her experiences have taught her much and she continues to learn a great deal. She is always a welcome sight on set.
Gaffer / Lighting Tech.
Trevor is a respected San Diego Gaffer and Lighting Technician. He’s worked on projects of every shape and size over the last 15 years and enjoys the different challenges each brings. His approach to lighting is simple: Use what is available to most service the story. “Every project is different. The way I light constantly changes and shifts. I try to make use of the environment around me as much as possible; to motivate my sources naturally. At the end of the day the Gaffers job is to help create the look for the DOP. It’s incredibly rewarding when everything comes together just right.”
Gaffer / Key Grip / Generator Op.
Tommy is originally from Va. Beach, VA., but moved to San Diego in ’08. He has worked extensively in Electric & Grip Departments for film & video productions for 26 years. He has worked on countless: commercials, indy films, TV shows & feature films including HBO’s John Adams, xXx 2; State of the Union, Eagle Eye, Anchorman 2, Transformers 3 & Spielberg’s Lincoln.
Tommy recently started ‘Neptune Power Co’- a small motion picture generator rental business. Neptune works seamlessly with Available Light when a generator is required for a particular production.
